The Music in Education program, which lets students learn music on Yamaha keyboards, was piloted at Chinook Elementary School last year. It was a huge success. Students loved it, teachers loved it, and students came away with a strong basic foundation in the elements of music.
Based on that success, all elementary music teachers were trained in the program, and keyboards are in place at all 21 elementary schools. The Music in Education program provides students with a common comprehensive music curriculum that includes opportunities to create, perform, and respond to music. As students exit the fifth grade, they will be prepared to further their middle school music education in band, orchestra or choir.
