Erin Lark, Skyview Principal Andy Meyer and OSPI rep

Dr. Erin Lark, educator at Skyview High School, has been named the 2026 Washington History Teacher of the Year by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. Chosen from nearly 10,000 nominees across the country, Dr. Lark stood out for making history meaningful and exciting for her students. Along with winning the state title, she represented Washington as a top finalist for the national award.

In her classroom, students learn by asking big questions, working directly with historical sources, and building strong communication skills. "Our classroom is a place embedded in curiosity, exploration, and communication," said Dr. Lark. She focuses on helping students discover new perspectives and connect historical events to the world today.

Along with this honor, Dr. Lark receives a $1,000 award and new educational resources provided by the Gilder Lehrman Institute to support social studies learning at Skyview.

Started in 2004, this national program celebrates outstanding K–12 history teachers. Each year, thousands of educators are nominated by students, parents, colleagues, and community members to highlight the essential work history teachers do every day.

Vancouver Public Schools proudly congratulates Dr. Lark on this wonderful achievement! To learn more about the award, visit the Gilder Lehrman History Teacher of the Year page.
